Pure Video Art

Yes yes yes, I know. Passion Pit's "The Reeling" isn't a new song, but, when I saw this video again today after not seeing it for awhile I was reminded how great it was. The concept of the video is genius and the way they have torn pieces of paper, make out the bodies and surrounding buildings, is pure video art. Here is just that video:

Jockin My Fresh: Outfit Of The Day

This was snapped of a man outside Colette, in Paris. The perfect fit of everything he has on is what I like most. The jacket is a perfect form fit to his slim body as well as the pants. Aside from the perfect scarf for the outfit, the glasses are a nice addition as well.

The First Flight

So if you watch MTV's hit show, "Runs House", then you know who Diggy Simmons is. What you may not have known, is that this 14 year old, can actually rap... for his age. He shows a ton of promise and potential and the production on his debut mixtape, is very very well done. Although Diggy's voice sounds like Bow Wow when he featured on Jagged Edge's "Where Da Party At?", the songs are pretty ill. Listen below before you download!

Travis Barker's Rock ReMix-tape

I am sure, like myself, everyone has seen at least one Travis Barker remix to any given hip hop song, on YouTube. Well, he has done enough remixes to rap and r&b songs, to make a mixtape. Imagine that! Here it is! Below is the preview to listen to it and then download it at the link below. Enjoy!

Jockin My Fresh: Outfit Of The Day

How fucking dope is this guy? This is just your average every day citizen, walking in a crosswalk, in downtown London. This what I'm talking about! Fashion and style is e-v-e-r-y where. This guy is the definition of Jay-Z's line, "You can learn how to dress, just by jockin my fresh", which is of course why these posts are titled what they are. Some people who read this, should be jockin someone else's fresh because they cannot dress on their own.

Eat Noodles, Save Babies!

My dear friend Amelia put me up on this, and I'm glad she did. This is a very good cause and is very simple to do for all you Spartans in East Lansing. Eat at "Noodles & Co." tomorrow, Thursday December 3rd, and 25% of the cost of your meal, will be donated to MSU's March Of Dimes. You MUST print out the flyer above in order to make sure your donation goes to this great group.

The money we raise will:
1. Support all-important research offering preventions and solutions for babies born too soon or with birth defects.

2. Educate women on things they can do to increase their chances of having a healthy baby

3. Provide comfort and information to families with a newborn in intensive care

4. Push for newborn screening and health insurance for all pregnant women and children.

The mission of March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. If you are going to be out and about, possibly going to dinner prior to your Thirsty Thursday activities, you might as well stop out and help a good cause before hand. Maybe make yourself feel less guilty for the inappropriate and mischevious behavior you are going to take part in that night. Do your part!

Jockin My Fresh: New York City Edition

When going over some photos of fashion from across the world so I could do this daily post, the beautiful people of New York City kept coming up. I was so inspired by the outfits these people wore, that I decided to dedicate an entire post to more than one of them. Below, are some of the best points of fashion that your average every day citizen of New York City has to offer. Fashion across the world is absolutely incredible, but there is something that New York puts out, that not a single city on this planet can touch.

The above photos are of Diana Lunt, an assistant fashion editor. She said a lot of the time she dresses the way she feels that day, which explains the two drastic differences in the outfits. I fell in love with her, not for strictly her fashion, but rather the answer to an interviewers question. He asked, "What is your favorite cocktail?" Her response? "I don't drink cocktails, but I love a good whiskey on the rocks." You just stole my heart Diana.

The above picture is without a doubt my favorite. The fabric that is used for the vest and jacket looks entirely too comfortable. On top of that, the heather grey with the finely lined white stripes are an absolute perfect match.

Last but not least, probably my favorite thing about the phase I'm going through now, shoes without socks. The picture below displays that perfectly.

Thank you New York City. The world's fashion sense would be a bit dimmer if it weren't for you.

Sunday Bloody Sunday

Considering all the excitement of U2 coming to Spartan Stadium next summer, I figured I would post my favorite U2 song. Although I am not the biggest fan, this song is definitely one of my favorite songs in music in general. This is from their 1983 album "War" and is called "Sunday Bloody Sunday". I do admit, I chose to post this today, due to it being Sunday. So clever I know.

Hurricane

(Left to Right: Kanye West, Jared Leto (lead singer of 30 Seconds To Mars), and Brandon Flowers (lead singer of The Killers))

30 Seconds To Mars put out their first radio single "The Kill" which instantly drew me in as a fan. If you know me at all, you know how I feel about Kanye West. So when I found out the two would be collaborating on a song, of course I became anxious to hear the final product. That final product was released today, and the more I hear the song, the more I like it. It's a lot different then most songs, but when did being normal get anyone anywhere?

Jockin My Fresh: Outfit(s) Of The Day

This is Alessandra Colombo, a fashion designer from Milano. Not only are the cheetah print shoes, the gold bracelets, the sunglasses, and THE FUCKIN JACKET absolutely dope, but she doesn't wear socks with the outfits which I personally feel, makes the outfit complete. Granted she is a fashion designer, she is still killin these outfits.

Alicia Key's "Empire State Of Mind 2"

I have been waiting to hear this track ever since it was confirmed. Alicia Key's has done her own version of her hit single with Jay-Z, for her own album. Of course she did it the only way Ms. Keys knows how, and that is strictly her, and her piano. The song came out great. Plus Alicia Keys is damn damn damn good looking.

Wale's "Diary", the acoustic version.

Wale's track with Marsha Ambrosious titled "Diary", was already a dope track. Making the song acoustic, was the icing on the cake. I'm a sucker for any hip hop turned acoustic.

Death Cab Days Part 1: "Summer Skin"

This is a new thing I am doing for this week. Every day there will be a new Death Cab For Cutie song posted. They are one of my favorite bands and I want to share some of my favorite songs from them, with you. The first song I have chosen is "Summer Skin". The beautiful sound of piano and steady use of quite drum hats flow perfect. The writing is always poetic and is truly the icing on top of the cake.

Kanye Goes Rock?

Well sort of. Kevin Figueiredo has done rock remixes to Kanye's "Love Lockdown" and "Heartless". Below are the vids, and then below that, are the links to download the songs. I am more of a fan of the "Love Lockdown" version, but both are very dope. It just goes to show you how music is universal and shouldn't be limited to one genre. People who don't give any other genre a chance and are stuck to just one, really need to open their minds and broaden their horizons. You are truly missing out on the point of music, and that is simply, creative expression.

Jockin My Fresh: Outfit Of The Day

A civilian spotted in Sydney, Australia after a fashion show. I like the casual look with the shoes, and the shark pants. You don't get to see something like this too often and not a lot of people have the courage to wear something like that. They don't look too bad either. I respect that!

June 4th Show @ Mac's Bar!

I wanted to throw this up here to see if we can't get a few extra guests through the door. I'm really excited about this show. Shout out's to Philthy and JYoung who will be in attendance and hosting this show. It says only Philthy on the flyer, but JYoung will be there I am sure. It's going to be Moe-T's debut performance which should be great. We have been really putting in some time and effort on his new mixtape that is coming up titled "Sparknotes". He will be doing some new songs off that, don't miss it!

On top of that, the homie Austin White is coming in to headline the show by way of Chicago! I got on with his music awhile back thanks to Tony J. Ever since then, it's been a wrap! We have been in contact and doing big things since! He is a really down to earth cat who makes hits! He is working on a mixtape now to hold fans over until his next album drop which will be hosted by DJ Benzi titled "Technicolor". This really will be a treat for anyone who doesn't know this cat. The show is THIS THURSDAY June 4th so don't forget that! Below are a few myspace links where you can hear these artists and their music.

Austin! White & Moe-T

Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Maps"

This is an old song by the Yeah Yeah Yeah's and is still by far, my favorite song from them! This one is called "Maps". Very different and the lead singer is odd, but super creative!

Incredible Artist: Ashley Schefman

Ashley Schefman is a 19 year old Junior at Michigan State, who's majoring in studio art with a graphic design concentration and a specialization in design. She allowed me to ask a few quick questions about artwork, which you can see below. AMAZING! A very down to earth and humble person when you get a chance to speak with her and did I mention, that her artwork was AMAZING? I think I did but it doesn't hurt to mention it again.

BP: Where do you get your inspiration from when it comes to art?
AS: I've been really influenced by graffiti and Roy Lichtenstein. (see Roy Lichtenstein work, HERE)

BP: What about his work inspires you the most?
AS: His use of color and line quality, and the way he turns something simple into an amazing piece just by blowing it up and using bright color.

BP:
What would you ultimately like to do with this talent and major after you graduate?
AS: I would like to do graphic novel illustration as well as own an airbrush shop!

BP: Oh wow how cool! When did you officially realize that doing something in art, was what you wanted to do the rest of your life?
AS: Thanks! (laughs) Um, you know I don't know. I just sort of made it my major this year and then started doing projects that I got really passionate about. It sort of snowballed from there!

BP: Is there anything else that you want people to know you, or more specifically, your art?
AS: Just that I paint and draw things that hopefully make people happy or laugh. I love what I do and hopefully, it'll keep getting better! I mean who doesn't laugh when they see a black and white portrait of hall and oats?! right?

Jockin My Fresh: Outfit Of The Day

A civilian in Florence. This is PERFECT.

Those jeans are slim, the shirt collar high, pocket square prominent, the jacket sleeve very slim and at the perfect length, and the tie at just the right angle of to make this a perfect, classy ensemble.

The White Stripes Meet Hip Hop! DOPE!

I saw this promo video awhile back, and then completely forgot about it until today. My man Philthy, posted this as the mixtape was JUST released, and I am so happy he did. Mad props for appreciating this tape! Adrian Champion decided to take the ill music that The White Stripes make, and put some classic Hip Hop over it!

WOOOWWWWW. You get to hear the dopest rhymes from, Jay, Yeezy, Eminem, Outkast, Nas, etc. This is one of the coldest mixtapes to come out in awhile. Below is the promo video, as well as the link to download the FREE mixtape at.

Music coming together from all genres = BEAUTIFUL

Let The Beat Build

So the artist Nyle has done his version of Wayne's "Let The Beat Build", but it's a lot different. He takes his fellow classmates from the music cool that he attends, and they all use their unique talents, to spin this song to make it better. Very creative video as well that they put together!

Jockin My Fresh: Outfit Of The Day

Both of these civilians were photographed in Australia.

THIS KID IS TOO FLY! I know this kid doesn't dress himself, but he is about 50 steps ahead of a lot of people I know when it comes to looking good. DAMN!

The second person, takes being a nerd, to a whole other level. He holds down the freshness too damn well!

The Science

Once in a great while you come across a video, that not only inspires, but educates you. Murs is a great artist, and this video doesn't disappoint. Pay attention to the lyrics and meaning to this song, not only is he a very educated person, but a great writer. I love this song, and absolutely love this video.

The Passion Pit

This is a really creative music video! I love this. The song isn't too bad either. The more I listen to this song, the catchier and catchier it gets. I am gonna go out and just say it, I love this song. Whoever came up with the video idea, did an amazing job as well. So damn creative!

Kings Of Leon Cover

This is VERY cool. Any Kings Of Leon fans reading this? If so, this is a great tribute to them. There hit single "Use Somebody", which is not only getting crazy play on airwaves, but tv time on all major networks that still actually show music videos. The folky, but very mellow group "Bat For Lashes", did a live cover of the song "Use Somebody" on "The Live Lounge" which is BBC Radio. This is a great flipped version.

Pay attention to detail. ORANGE watch. Ray Ban Shades.
Check out the shoes, which are pastel yellow. Stylish.
Not to mention, tied pants in back, to show off kicks.

Morning Breaks By Michelle Batchelor

Michelle sent this over to me last night after a lengthy conversation about art, music, life, etc. As a local, passionate, free spirited girl, Michelle has been involved with music for quite some time. Written an recorded by herself with no equipment when she was 18, the song "Morning Breaks" explains the feelings that one goes through when looking for a special somebody.

"Honestly at that time in my life, I was just really wanted to find that type of love.....where you can't stand to be without that person. I was really independent on my own but wanting to find that true love that just really captures your heart," Michelle said. "I wrote it right after my first love moved all the way across the country, so this was the type of a song about letting go, but knowing that it would always be a part of me as well".

Now 21, it's always been a dream for her to sing as a career. Hopefully she will can get noticed, and do just that! She is super talented with a great voice, and it has only gotten better in the last 3 years. Although the sound quality is low, you get a sense for her voice and the guitar which she is playing, and a feel of what she was going through, with the lyrics being written by Michelle herself.

Dat Kid From Cleveland

The official Kid Cudi Mixtape was released today. This is to hold the fan over until the Album drops. Very cool and Cudi is bringing a bit of fresh air and unique style to the music scene. The mixtape can be downloaded HERE. You can also preview the songs in the player, below the cover of the mixtape.

Jockin My Fresh: Outfit Of The Day

This is a new concept that I'm starting where I will post an outfit of the day that I come across, that I think is tooooooo damn fresh! Shout out to Ivy Davis for introducing me to some new fashion sites! Thanks homie, you were the inspiration for the start of this! Welcome to the debut.

This is a photo taken of a civilian in Milan.

Grapevine Fires

If you have been a regular viewer of this blog, you know that I am a sucker for a very good music video. If it shows great creativity, unique depictions of events or views, never really been done before, and is accompanied by a good song... you win in my book. This is no different! Death Cab For Cutie's latest video "Grapevine Fires" has all the above qualities and much more! Very dope video to say the least.

Passenger Meets Austin! White

Passenger is a northern Utah based group, that came out in 2000 with a style that is a blend with acoustic, folk rock, and soaring harmonies. Very good and worth a download! Their song "Do What You Like" is featured on their album "Wicked Man's Rest", is a favorite of mine. I was VERY pleased that the homie Austin White, a very talented musician out of Chicago, put a spin on the song. Below is the original "Do What You Like", along with Austin White's version titled "Wait For You". Austin kept the entire vocals from the original, and just gave it a new produced sound behind it, Austin White style. His version is available to hear when you download his album "The Pink Tamago" for free, from his MYSPACE.

The Original Version from Passenger:

Austin White's Version "Wait For You":

His Dream - Asleep In The Bread Aisle

Happy Easter everyone! With 8 days until the debut album "Asleep In The Bread Aisle" by Asher Roth drops, it seems like songs are leaking left and right! Don't worry, leak or not, the CD is definitely worth a purchase. The production of the CD seems to be very well put together, and his lyrics show definite talent. Although he is known for his song "I Love College", with this latest leak, you can see his poetic side. This shit is deep and is already a favorite of mine. This song is called "His Dream".

These Might Be The Dopest Shoes I've Ever Seen!

WOWWWWWW. I am speechless.

Throwback: Never Let Me Down

This is the ORIGINAL and BEST version of this song. Kanye feat. Jay Z and poet J.Ivy. Kanye featured a version of this song on his debut album "College Dropout", but this version was recorded prior. This has an added verse at the end by Jay, where the last line of the verse, Hov kills it. The song is posted at the bottom underneath my favorite lyrics from this version.

Favorite Kanye lyrics:

"I get down for my grandfather
who took my momma, made her sit that seat
where white folks ain't wanna us to eat.
At the tender age of 6 she was arrested for the sit in
With that in my blood I was born to be different"

"That's why I hear new music
And I just don't be feeling it
Racism still alive they just be concealing it
But I know they don't want me in the damn club
They even made me show I.D to get inside of Sam's club"

"And I know that u were smiling when u see that car I bought her
And u sent tears from heaven when u seen my car get balled up
But I can't complaint what the accident did to my Left Eye
Cuz look what a accident did to Left Eye
First Aaliyah and now romeo must die?
I know a got angels watching me from the other side"

I would post J.Ivy's poetic verse BUT... The whole damn thing is amazing.

Favorite Jay lyric:

"Let you tell that man I'm falling,
Well somebody must've caught him,
Cause every fourth quarter, I like to Mike Jordan 'em"

and Finally my favorite lyric of the whole song....

"The way y'all all follow Jigga,
Hov's a living legend and I tell you why,
Everybody wanna be Hov and Hov still alive."

WOW.

Is This The New Lupe Fiasco Single?

At first they said it was going to be, and now they are saying it's not. Either way this live snippet from a concert awhile back, sounds epic. It features Matthew Santos and is being considered by some, better than Lupe's smash single, "Superstar". The song is titled "Shining Down", not the very best quality but good enough to hear how good the song will be. This song will be featured on Lupe's next album titled "Lasers" which is scheduled to drop this summer (hopefully). Click below link to listen and download this 1:12 snippet.

Lupe Fiasco's "Shining Down" Snippet.

Mash-up: Kanye West & Modest Mouse

Courtesy of The Hood Internet, is a mash-up of Kanye West's "Paranoid" and Modest Mouse's "Float On". The song by Modest Mouse was a favorite of mine so this mash-up is very cool to me!

Mash-up: Katy Perry

Interesting mash-up between Katy Perry and The Thermals done by the folks over @ The Hood Internet. It's an edgier rock version or her song "Hot n Cold". Pretty dope if you ask me.

A New Borat Movie?

Well yes and no. Sasha Baron Cohen, the person behind Borat, also had other characters. For anyone who hasn't seen "Da Ali G Show", I highly recommend it! One of the other characters that was popular from that show (other than Borat), was a gay self proclaimed fashion stylist from Australia by the name of Bruno. So Sasha has decided to make a movie that is in the same format as "Borat", but instead, with the character Bruno. This is the trailer for the movie that will be out in July. HILARIOUS!

Nike Air Structure Triax 91

These are super fly. That's all that can be said! I want a pair AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
